On this solemnity, the Church affirms that the Blessed Virgin Mary has been taken, body and soul, into “heavenly glory.” To be in heavenly glory is not to be located at some particular spot above the earth, but to have entered fully into the mystery of God. What is true of Mary now will be true of all the saved in the Kingdom of God. We too shall be fully united to God, not only in our souls, but also in our risen bodies. All that God creates—both the spiritual and the material—is subject to redemption. Mary stands as a sign of hope to us of the scope of God’s redeeming activity, extending not simply to souls, but to our material bodies themselves.
THE MEMORARE:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother
to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
