Thanksgiving Blessings! This Thursday, we pause to remember all the blessings in our lives. Gratitude is a foundational attitude of the Christian life, remembering and giving thanks for all that God has done for us. There’s not one person who can say that God hasn’t done anything for them, that God hasn’t poured out some blessing in their life.
We’re not all blessed in the same ways and some of us may look at others and believe them to be more blessed than us, but the reality is that we are ALL blessed and loved by God. Rather than comparing our blessings with the blessings of others, or focusing on the blessings that we wish that we had, we are called to focus on and give thanks for the very real blessings of God that are in our lives.
When we focus on other’s blessings, our own blessings easily become diminished or forgotten about, so often other’s blessings seem to be better than our own. But it’s not about who’s blessed better or who’s blessed worse, it’s about who’s blessed, and the answer to that question is each and every one of us. So, this Thanksgiving, let’s focus inward rather than outward. Let’s live each day with an attitude of gratitude, making Thanksgiving more than just a one day celebration, but a daily reminder that God is present and active in every one of our lives. Our neighbor’s blessings may not be our blessings, but our blessings are there, so let’s spend time giving thanks to God for them!
