As we continue our celebration of Easter this weekend we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. St. Faustina, the great Saint of mercy wrote, "Let the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy….Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more graces than they ask.”
The great message of God’s mercy is that no matter what our sin may be, no matter how despondent in our gilt we may be, God loves to forgive, He is rich in mercy. Sometimes the hardest step to take in forgiveness is not God forgiving us, but sometimes we have a hard time forgiving ourselves. Even if we believe ourselves to be unworthy of God’s forgiveness or outside of its realm, God is always there ready to forgive & desiring to extend His mercy to us.
While we might be tempted to think thoughts such as “How could God ever forgive me?” or “Do you know what I’ve done?” and while maybe some guilt can be a good thing and can help lead us to growth, the Message of Divine Mercy Sunday is that we can’t allow the guilt to overwhelm & to block out the extension of God’s mercy.
On this Divine Mercy Sunday, if we find ourselves caught up in the guilt of our sin & our past choices, let’s not hesitate to bring that guilt before the great mercy & love of our God. God wants to extend His love & mercy towards us, let’s not put up any roadblocks in His way.
