As we enter into the month of May I wanted to share with you and draw your attention to 2 important and exciting events that will be taking place over the course of the month.
First, there are probably some who remember or who listened to Trapper Jack during his days as a radio host on WDOK. Since his days on the radio, Trapper Jack has spent a significant amount of his time going around sharing the message of the Gospel and how God is working in the world and calling us. We are excited to be able to welcome Trapper Jack to St. Vincent de Paul on Sunday, May 23rd at 6:00 pm. This is a continuation of our year-long joint parish mission that was begun, you may remember, back in March of 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic shut us down, so whether you’re a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul or at St. Patrick’s, you are invited to join us. See the bulletin insert for more details of Trapper Jack’s talk, which will be on Mary. Seating may be limited due to the continuing pandemic restrictions, but we hope to be able to welcome everyone who wishes to come.
Second, is the Heart of the Shepherd Campaign that is being conducted in waves throughout the Diocese. Over the course of the next few weeks our parish will be participating in this initiative. There will be an evening information session that you will be invited to attend and we will also hear about the campaign at Mass. There will be more information in a bulletin insert NEXT weekend, but the funds of this campaign will go towards the much needed renovation of our seminary, the Priest Retirement Fund, as well as an endowment to assist in Clergy Tuition Debt reduction that will especially help those who began work in other careers and then heard God’s call to the priesthood. But that’s not it. The money that is raised and pledged will do much more, because for every dollar that is raised and pledged, 50% of it comes right back to us here at the parish. That could help us tremendously in continuing the great work of our parish. One of the immediate ways that you’ll see that at work is in the work of fixing up and sealing the East parking lot. Your donations will go towards helping to fix the potholes and provide a smooth driving and parking surface.
